FREE PERFORMANCE!
Tesla Quartet-String Master Class
Thursday, August 6, 11AM
Saugatuck Woman's Club
303 Butler St., Saugatuck

I will be performing the first movement of Dvorak's "American String Quartet" in a Masterclass Thursday, August 6th at 11am with my quartet: The Charmante String Quartet. This specific masterclass is being put on by the Chamber Music Festival Of Saugatuck with the Tesla String Quartet as the artist guest instructors.

If you have never been an audience member in a masterclass before this is a treat that you don't want to miss. A masterclass is a doubly enriching experience for audience members and performers because not only is a piece performed and enjoyed, it is also taken apart and taught. As an audience member you get to watch renowned artists depart some of their knowledge to another group. If you are one of my students or former students I highly encourage you to go. Firstly, it is free! Secondly, you will get to see one of the world's greatest young string quartet's: The Tesla String Quartet. Thirdly, you may pick up some great violin tips yourself from watching my group and listening to the tips and tricks these musicians bring to us. Fourthly, (I have to throw this in) you get to see me perform too!

All the best,
Larissa

Suzuki Teacher Training:

From June 19th-June 28th I had the wonderful opportunity to do a teacher’s training certification course at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for the Suzuki teaching method, specifically Book 1 out of 10 total books for the violin.

I had to participate in 15 hours of observations and 28 hours of total class time. It was pretty extensive but very much worth all of the work.

During my training I learned the philosophies of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, his methods, and observed group and private lessons that were taught by well seasoned Suzuki Teachers. I met many talented and wise musicians who were willing to pass on their knowledge to me.

The backdrop for my training was beautiful! I was able to live in a cabin for the 9 days I participated in this training. There were a lot of bugs and we may or may not have had a family of mice living in our cabin, but the woods were so peaceful and I enjoyed waking up to the birds chirping early in the mornings each day.

On top of my classes and observations I participated in 2 faculty orchestra concerts, was an audience member in 2 student recitals, helped tune some of the students for group classes and performances, and was able to network with fascinating people from around the country. I am excited to continue learning more and continue to improve my teaching skills!
“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens.
If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it,
they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”
-Shinichi Suzuki
